Now I'm just goofing off.
What I Believe (This Wednesday At Least)
I think that linguistic ability is important.
I believe that environmental health needs more attention than it receives.
Drugs can be used responsibly.
The holy trinity: Ennis, , Gaiman, and Morrison,. 'Nuff said.

I was going to write a reasoned, intelligent discussion on civil liberties.
But then, I realized that this week, I have to get a business plan finished, get a state/federal tax ID number, apply for a loan, schmooze a few people, convince the IRS to send me last year's tax return in 3 days instead of 6 weeks, work 40 hours, and move.
So guess what? Instead I'm going to post a bunch of ridiculous links like this one.
And because this is supposed to be at least (partially) a website about herbs, here's a cool link from my righteous herbalist girlfriend Emily.
Thanks and goodnite, all.

Today's subject is going to be eroding civil liberties. (I know, I know. What a laff riot. Well, buck up, little cowboy, I'll sprinkle in some fun stuff as well, I promise. Like this.) (to be continued...)

Would the owner of the blue Dodge Omni please move their car, as it is blocking the entranceway. Thank you.

So today something weird happened.
Three different people approached me with questions about pancreatitis. Specifically, *their* pancreatitis. For those of you who don't know, pancreatitis is a severe, sometimes life-threatening inflammation of--you guessed it--the pancreas. Basically, what happens is that the digestive enzymes produced in the pancreas become backed up and start autolyzing pancreatic cells, causing pain and inflammation. If you're exceptionally unlucky, these enzymes escape into your bloodstream and basically start digesting your organs, especially the heart and lungs. (Yuck. Ow. Ew. Stoppit.)
(Before you get all creeped out and hypochondriacal, realize that most people who contract pancreatitis are either heavy drinkers, have suffered some sort of liver/gallbladder damage, or have really high blood triglycerides due to poor diet or somesuch. So most people don't just suddenly get pancreatitis--at least not if they've been drinking in moderation, eating well, and generally not contracting hepatitis.)
As you might surmise, this is not exactly as common as a head cold, which makes it quite bizarre to think that *three* people suddenly have questions about it. Considering that in the four years previous I've only run across two people who have mentioned it to me, it's a wee bit creepy to have three people in the course of a few hours have questions on it.
Now I'm going to go do a bit of head-scratching and try and figure out what, exactly, the universe is trying to tell me. (Besides the obvious, which is "You need to learn more about pancreatitis!")
The links of the day are really big dogs and again here

link o' the day: reptoid sex I don't make this stuff up, folks.
Recipie of the week:
beet/new potato salad
3-4 young tender beets
4 hardboiled eggs
8-10 small new red potatoes
small bunch fresh basil (to taste, I ended up with about 1 1/2 T. finely chopped)
2-3 T. mayonnaise or grapeseed oil Vegannaise (preferred)
salt to taste
Boil beets and potatoes. While they're boiling, mix Vegannaise and finely chopped basil with the yolks of the eggs. Dice eggwhites, and when the beets and potatoes are boiled, dice them (dice beets smaller than taters) and add to eggwhites. Add dressing. Stir and chill.
Yummy with Chardonnay.
I invented this recipie at 8:30 this morning as I was thinking "What the hell am I going to make with beets, potatoes, and whatever else I have in my fridge?" Turned out pretty good. Try it yourself.
